Kelly's Closet

KT, Costa Mesa, D04C

On August 12th, CMHS Key Club, along with OCC Circle K, ECHS Key Club, EHS Key Club, and the Costa Mesa Kiwanis, participated in Kelly’s Closet, an annual service event in which we help low-income children, chosen by the Girls & Boys Club, shop for school clothes at Macy’s, complete a STEM project, and obtain school supplies. The day started off with some volunteers being paired with children to go to Macy's while other volunteers stayed back to set up the STEM activity and lunch. At Macy's each child, mentored by their volunteers, got the opportunity to shop for school clothes with a $200 budget. Back at the Boys & Girls Club, we ate lunch provided by Newport Rib Company and completed a STEM activity in which we built solar paneled cars. As the children were leaving, they got their Macy's bag of clothes, a backpack, a computer, school supplies, and a mental health goodie bag. The goal of this event is to provide children with the tools they need to thrive in school, and we hope we did just that.
