DV, Oxnard, D42W
This summer we hosted our annual July service week, July 15th-19th. During this service week, we posted tasks that could be done at home. They give hours for doing the task as long as they send a photo proof with their hours. On Monday we made cards for healthcare workers. On Tuesday we used Oceanhero Browser. On Wednesday we did Freerice. Thursday we traveled for charity miles. Finally, on Friday we played trivia on BeanBeanBean. Thank you to all of our amazing members who spent this entire week giving back to our community, we greatly appreciate your kindness and hard work!!!
D05S August DCM and Summer Olympics
HA, Edison, D05S
Our August DCM and Summer Olympics were held on August 9th along with the D05N Corgis! We were able to congratulate our clubs and divisions on all that they accomplished over summer break, never stopping to serve their homes, schools, and communities! We had a fun time celebrating the end of summer break with a variety of games like telephone charades, Pictionary, and more. With the competitive spirit coming out of a lot of our attendees once we started playing the games. And to end off our fun-filled hot summer afternoon, we had a water balloon fight to cool off!
Colorsplash
TM, Clark Magnet, D03N
Region 7's Colorsplash was held at Verdugo Skate Park on August 10 from 12 to 3 PM. There was a great concoction of attendees from different divisions of Region 7, which was nice to see. Among the attendees were people from North Hollywood, Burbank, Eagle Rock, and more. The event was filled with icebreakers, Colorsplash (the main activity), and pieing the LTGs in Region 7. Key Club has held several wonderful events so far, but Colorsplash is one of my favorites. The icebreaker activity was also something I really liked. The LTGs had everyone write three facts about themselves on paper (you were not supposed to include your name), and then they mixed the papers to give everyone a random paper. Afterwards, you had to figure out to whom the original paper belonged. Activities such as these provide a unique opportunity to interact with other people, especially those from other divisions.
D32 Garden Visit
SO, Piner, D32
The Piner High School Key Club recently visited Hallberg Garden in Sebastopol, a renowned local garden known for its diverse collection of pollinator plants. The purpose of the visit was to explore potential plant varieties for their own school garden, which they aim to cultivate in the near future. This visit not only offered the students an opportunity to learn about different pollinator-friendly species but also provided them with practical insights into the design and maintenance of pollinator feeders, an essential component for supporting local ecosystems.
The Hallberg Garden team graciously shared their expertise, guiding the Key Club members through the various types of plants that thrive in the garden and attract essential pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. The students left the garden inspired and equipped with ideas to enhance their school’s green spaces. With newfound knowledge, they are looking forward to implementing these ideas and contributing to a vibrant and sustainable environment on campus as they embark on another productive school year.
