Candidate Training Conference

AN, St Marys, D27N

Fantasy-TC, well known as Candidate Training Conference (CTC) was held on December 4th from 10 A.M. - 4 P.M. at Kiwanis Family House. CTC is an annual training event that occurs every year to prepare and inform prospective Lieutenant Governor candidates. It was very successful and eventful from meeting potential candidates from Region 16. We went through multiple workshops which educated us about the Lieutenant Governor’s tasks, personal experiences and advice, practicing caucus questions, the application process, and the expectations of Lieutenant Governor. One of my favorite workshops was “Rejection is Redirection” presented by Ryan Leung and Morgan Fu. It went over how to cope if you lose for LTG and just rejection in general. Take a pivot! The advice of the current Lieutenant Governors were really impactful since they were being extremely honest of their position and how they felt throughout the term so far. Overall, the training was very informative for it educated potential candidates of the possibility of LTG and their duties.

Annual Olympics

BL, D44W

Divisions 44 West, North, and South held their second annual D44 Olympics event in the month of November, and it was an extremely fun event for all who attended! Various games were played, including musical animals (a variation of musical chairs), tug of war, telephone charades, sharks and minnows, “Sing That Word,” and a scavenger hunt. These activities were a mixture of competitive and cooperative games and allowed members from all divisions to meet each other and have fun together. The competition was pretty close, but at the end Division 44 North came out as the victor, having won the highest number of games! Service activities such as Color A Smile were also available for attendees who wanted to complete community service, and light snacks were provided as well. We had a total of about 70 members and officers in attendance, and it was very fun to see so many people show up to the event and participate in all the activities planned by the Division Leadership Teams and Lieutenant Governors!

San Diego Key Club Service Projects

AL, San Diego, D11

This month, San Diego High School Key Club hosted 2 service projects. For our first service project, we wrote letters to the elderly for the upcoming holiday seasons. For our second service project, we made goodie bags for the nurses at Rady's Children's Hospital. Our members wrote notes and made little Christmas trees and reindeer out of candy! We were able to make around 20 goodie bags. Finally, San Diego High School hosted Winter Wonderland, a fundraiser for clubs and sports. Our Key Club participated in this fundraiser where we sold cinnamon rolls! Many of our members showed up to support our club by helping at the stand and buying our cinnamon rolls.

The Great Blanket Tower

MC, Piedmont Hills, D12E

Coming into the event, I could see the Hope on Wheels Truck and noticed this was the right place I needed to be. After getting dropped off at the lot there were at least 30 people waiting for the event to get started! Everyone was later split off into groups, I have no idea what the other groups were, but we had to fold up blankets and other items from these giant bins and move them to these tiny little tables. A great idea isn’t it? WRONG. Just fifteen minutes later and one of my friends accidentally bumps into the pile of blankets and it all topples down. Later, more tables were put up to help and those bins were emptied in no time. It was really nice seeing the joy on the people’s faces as they got the blankets. It really is cold nowadays. As we finished up we were all able to enjoy some pink lemonade too! We ended by folding up table legs and putting them away onto racks and almost trapping someone in a tarp.
