Kula Shofukuji Shingon Obon Festival

On August 26th, our club had the opportunity to help out at the Kula Shofukuji Shingon Obon festival. This event has become something that we try to do annually. Because members have the opportunity to not only get some good service hours at the beginning of the school year and have a good time doing so, connecting with the community was also an opportunity for members which was extremely important after the destructive Maui wildfires. Members volunteered at the festival from about 2:30 to 10 PM and it was amazing to see all the smiling faces and the amount of people we had in comparison to last year who attended the dance. While volunteering members could choose to volunteer at a couple of different stations. First, there was the baked goods and oddities booth where remembers helped set up and then sell items to people who were hanging out for the festival. Then there was helping prepare food to sell down at the bottom. Finally, there was helping to sell and run food between the people at the back and the people at the front. Overall members seemed to have an excellent time and it is always wonderful to see how much it matters that we are able to be there and help out because they need the extra support while running the festival.
